Persistent software issues and technical failures have led county officials to compute their options when the county’s accounting software contract expires this year.
Finance Director Ingrid Deloach asked the county’s Financial Management Committee for a budget increase on Wednesday to contract with a new software vendor.
“We feel like that would be a good investment for us,” Deloach said. “The system we have right now is so antiquated that you can’t live in today’s world with it. I would hope that you would support us as we go and try to get funding from the budget.”
In June 2012, the committee considered a new software contract with a Wisconsin-based company known as Skyward Inc. Because the incumbent vendor – Bridge Computer Systems – was bought out by Saratoga Technologies; in the end the county chose to renew its contract.
Deloach said Saratoga has fallen short of initial expectations.
“We thought Saratoga would provide much better support, and improve our computer system all the way around,” Deloach said. “However, that’s really not happened, to date. We’ve given them sufficient time, and I really think it’s time to move on.”
