Cyclones wear down Panthers


Elizabethton proved to be a “pane on the glass” against Cumberland Gap in Saturday’s first-round Region 1-AA game. The Cyclones outrebounded the Panthers 52-32, that was instrumental in their 67-42 win inside of John Treadway Gymnasium.
Coach Lucas Honeycutt’s cagers came out sizzling to start the game by going a 17-4 run. The Panthers played hard and kept it from being a blowout early but ‘Betsy was never threatened.
“I was pretty confident because of the way we hit the boards,” said Honeycutt. That relieved some of our worries. I felt like we were a little flat at times but we did have a lot of balance throughout our lineup and we played a lot of kids. I was especially pleased with the play of our bench and happy with the win. I just don’t think our focus was what it was against Sullivan East.”
