Elizabethton’s Lawrence Mitre took an exciting 7-5 No. 6 match against Volunteer’s Alex Morgan to lift the boys’ tennis team to a 5-4 victory over the Falcons on Wednesday afternoon at the Cyclone Tennis Complex.

The girls won in more dominating fashion, sweeping each singles match and dropping just one doubles in an 8-1 win in a tuneup for the District 1-AA event today and Friday at EHS.

Senior Christine Hardin took Marie Tipton 6-3 in No. 1 singles, and No. 2 Hannah Hulshult beat Natalie Arnold. In the No. 4 match, Alesha Sisk came back from one down to sweep past Mary Lenox 6-1.

“My serve was real good,” Sisk said. “The wind was the biggest problem. It would blow the ball out, so that was the biggest concern. I think I have had a pretty successful season so far, I lost one singles match this season –against Unicoi – and all my other singles and doubles I have won.

“In the district I will play Johnson County’s No. 5. I feel pretty confident.”

The only game the Lady Cyclones dropped was doubles No. 2, and that was by a 6-3 tally. The duo of Hannah Lad and Mary Lenox was able to trip Courtney Evans and Halie Collins.
