Cyclones send Devils to setback

Elizabethton broke out the old “Ebenezer Scrooge” defense on Friday night and laid one “Bah Humbug” spanking on Unicoi County. A stingy defense limited the Blue Devils to only three dozen points in the Cyclones’ 57-36 win.

The Cyclones played once again without its leading scorer Aaron Miller, who is out with a stress fracture in his foot — but they compensated well in his absence. Seven players of its nine players in uniform scored and half-dozen had six or more.

“We got off to a great start in the first quarter and we’ve told our kids how important that was,” said Elizabethton coach Lucas Honeycutt. “We came out ready to play and I liked that. We’re playing well in practice and it’s starting to translate over into games. These guys are starting to understand what it takes for us to be a good basketball team.”

The score was tied at 4 when ’Betsy took the lead for good. Will Robinson got free for a deuce on the inside, then Hunter Combs tickled the twine for three from the outside. The Cyclones got a huge boost from their sixth man Alex Baughman, who nailed a pair of jumpers when his services were summonsed.
