Cyclones put season on the line at unbeaten Greeneville

By

Meeting number 70 in the storied rivalry of Elizabethton and Greeneville’s football paths will mark the end of one successful gridiron chapter and the continuation of another.

The second and third-ranked teams in Class 4-A would normally be reserved for a semifinal or even quarterfinal match-up. Given the stacked, loaded group in the East Tennessee quadrant this season, all of that is thrown out the window.

Tonight at Greeneville’s Burley Stadium, two very good football teams — the two Northeast Tennessee teams with the most postseason success in the recent years — will do battle in just the second round to likely decide which will make the trip to face this season’s number one. It’s one of those years.
