Cyclones leave with heads held high

By

SMYRNA — Only one team can leave the state tournament as winner in each of the three classifications. Elizabethton leaves Murfreesboro with nothing to be ashamed of.

It wasn’t the banner performance that everyone had hoped for, yet the Orange & Black earned my respect and many others.

The deck was stacked against the Cyclones when they learned that their first-round opponent would be Pigeon Forge (37-2) with potential big leaguer Wil Crowe on the mound.

The Tigers were better than advertised. The other three teams, including Elizabethton, were ‘Even Steven’ on that side of the bracket.

Some will say it’s sour grapes, but the overturned call in the seven inning cost the Cyclones a shot at winning in Wednesday’s battle with Dyersburg.
