AFTON — A Pedro Teixeira hat-trick and an amazing save by goalkeeper Luke Broyles deep into stoppage time saw Elizabethton through to a key 3-2 soccer victory at Chuckey-Doak on Tuesday, keeping the Cyclones undefeated in conference play.
Teixeira scored twice in the first half, putting the Cyclones out front on both occasions. He saved the best for last, scoring a beautiful goal from about 25 yards out in the 73rd minute for what held up to be the match winner.
“It means a lot,” Teixeira said. “Against our rivals, this was a good game, a good victory. I can’t even explain it. It was just a good win. Our team played great. We had to hold them off the last few minutes. The important thing was the win.”
