Cyclones’ Arnett swims to state berth

By

BRISTOL — The opportunity was there, and D.J. Arnett seized it.
The Elizabethton senior swam to a time of 2:00.58 in the 200-yard freestyle in Thursday night’s Last Chance Meet at Viking Hall. Arnett thus qualified for next month’s state swimming meet in Knoxville.
“It’s amazing — one of the best feelings — and the preparation paid off,” Arnett said. “I knew this was the last shot I got, and I had to go all out or nothing. I came in here prepared, knowing what I had to do and I got the job done.”
This gives the Cyclones two boys in the state meet, with Scout Walz having qualified in six events. Elizabethton can thus bring a relay team to the University of Tennessee’s aquatic facility.
