The Elizabethton Regional Planning Commission gave final site plan approval for Carter County’s first assisted-living facility.

The 89-bed Elizabethton Assisted Living Facility will be located next to Medical Care LLC on West Elk Avenue. The facility will be owned by John Sheehan, who also owns Hillview Health Center and Hermitage Health Center.

The facility will be two stories and will include a memory care center for patients with memory care issues, such as Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

The assisted-living facility will share a parking lot with Medical Care because the health care facility has a large parking area already in place, but the builder would also add parking spaces to the development.

“This will be the first assisted-living facility in the city limits and in Carter County,” said Director of Planning and Development Jon Hartman.
