Council sets liquor store limit at 3

Elizabethton will have no more than three package liquor stores after city council voted to set the limit at one per 4,500 residents Thursday night.
The limit was part of an ordinance needed to regulate stores after city voters approved their existence in a November referendum – and reflected a change from earlier discussions that centered on a limit of four stores.
The ordinance passed on a 4-3 vote, with Mayor Curt Alexander, Mayor Pro-Tem Bill Carter, Bob Cable and Richard Tester voting in favor. Nancy Alsup, Sam Shipley and Jeff Treadway voted against.
