Now the community is banding together to help ARM meet some needs of its own.

A community fundraiser will be held Monday, Aug. 5, at the Elizabethton Chick-fil-A to help raise money to help ARM buy a 8-foot-by-16-foot industrial walk-in freezer.

ARM Director Nikki Jones said the larger freezer was much-needed by the agency, saying the stand-up and chest-style freezers currently in use are at capacity. The residential-sized freezers are used to store the frozen foods and meat items before distribution to clients.

“As much as we give out, we are able to get it back and fill them up again,” Jones said.

A larger freezer would make it easier for workers to access food to give to clients, and would also streamline the storage process. Jones said volunteers now must keep track of which freezer was filled first to make sure the food given to the agency first is also given out first.

“We have to keep track of which freezer we filled up last so we can rotate the items correctly,” she said.
