TuesdayAug. 21

Keenburg Elementary School will hold an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Kirk Langston will speak about the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization. Principal Jason Hartley will discuss Title 1 and general information about the school. All parents are welcome and will be able to meet with teachers at 6 p.m. A free meal of hotdogs, chips and drinks will be served at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 547-4047.

Sycamore No. 163 Order of the Eastern Star will have a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Dashiell Lodge. Members are encouraged to attend and visiting members are welcome.

The Al-Anon “Free To Be Me” Family Group will meet at 6 p.m. at the Watauga Baptist Association Building, 3871 Highway 19E, Elizabethton.

The Green Pastures Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 8 p.m. in the Conference Room at Crossroads, 413 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton.

 

WednesdayAug. 22

A Benefit Picnic Lunch will be held at 11:15 a.m. at the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center, 428 E. G St. The menu will consist of hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni salad, baked beans, watermelon, dessert and soft drinks. Tickets are $6 each and on sale now. Carryout will be available. A musical program starts at 10 a.m. All proceeds will help with operating expenses at the senior center.

 

ThursdayAug. 23

The Roan Mountain 12-Step Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. at Magill Presbyterian Church, 296 Highway 143, Roan Mountain.

 

FridayAug. 24

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Music will be provided by the Rambling Rose Band. Those attending are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge.

Southern Countrymen Band will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at The Outdoorsman on Stone Drive in Kingsport. Admission is $5. For more information, call Daryl Goodman at 943-5600.

SaturdayAug. 25

Hampton Lodge No. 750 will hold a breakfast at 8 a.m. followed by the installation of a Fellow Craft degree at 9 a.m. All visiting brethren are welcome.

Descendants of Philip and Catherine Greenwell Finney will hold their annual family reunion at Elk River Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish and drink. The church is located on Highway 321 in Butler. For more information, call 542-8992 or 768-3387.

Descendants of Frank and Lena Rainbolt Gouge will hold a family reunion from 1 to 5 p.m. in the picnic area on the Overlook side of Watauga Lake. Attendees are asked to bring food and drinks to share. For more information, call Susan Gouge Estep at 542-0443 or Ralph Gouge at 474-2734.

The annual TENITE Reunion for all Eastman TENITE and Specialty Plastics retirees, former and current employees, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eastman Picnic Shelter No. 9, Bays Mountain Park. Limited Edition will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Buffalo Ruritan Club in Bluff City. Admission is $5.

Alcoholics Anonymous 12-Step Closed Meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at Crossroads, 413 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton.

Narcotics Anonymous “Just For Today” group will meet at the Crossroads Building at 12:15 p.m. Enter through the entrance at the rear of the building.

 

SundayAug. 26

Family and friends are invited to the annual Brewer/Birchfield Family Reunion at Roan Mountain State Park at the Campground Picnic Shelter. Please bring a picnic lunch for everyone to enjoy. Coffee, cups, plates, napkins and silverware will be furnished. Lunch will be served at noon. Those attending are asked to bring family history and photos to share.
