Cloudland stops Cherokee

Occasionally a Carter County team gets invited to play in the Arby’s Classic, but never Cloudland. Unaka, Elizabethton and Hampton have all been during the past decade, with Unaka and Hampton logging two wins apiece.
The Highlanders have been to the state tournament four times in the past six years, but have never spent the Christmas holidays at Viking Hall.
They made sure that one entry comes off a loss into its first-round game with Tabernacle Baptist from the Bahamas. Cloudland shocked a very athletic Cherokee squad 58-54 Friday night inside of Sonny Smith Gymnasium with 32 minutes of in-your-face defense.
