Cloudland football team receives Bobby Dodd Award

JOHNSON CITY — The disappointment of losing what became the Mountain East Conference Championship game was erased somewhat for the Cloudland Highlanders at one football banquet on Monday night.

The ’Landers, coming off a very hard to swallow 21-12 defeat to the Hampton Bulldogs on Friday night, definitely had their spirits uplifted in a major way with the presentation of the Bobby Dodd Sportsmanship Trophy to Cloudland’s football team at the Region One Officials banquet at the Doubletree Hotel.

The Bobby Dodd Trophy is given out to the team which scores the highest among a criteria throughout the season set by all the officials in Northeast Tennessee. The scoring is tallied at the end of week nine, one week before the end of high school football’s regular season — and the trophies are given out for each conference, with those awards being called the Ralph Stout awards. The Bobby Dodd Award is for the overall winner of those Ralph Stout winners.
