WARTBURG — Despite monstrous efforts from seniors Zac Potter and Taylor Whitehead, Cloudland’s basketball team was eliminated on Monday night.
The state’s second-ranked Class A team stood in the way. Wartburg Central, paced by Mr. Basketball candidate Alex Fountain, prevailed 48-44 in the sub-state playoffs.
The Highlanders (24-12) fell short in their quest for a third straight berth in the state tournament in Murfreesboro.
Potter cut loose for 22 points, nine rebounds and two steals. He hit 11 points in the first quarter, and matched that total in the fourth.
Whitehead cleaned the glass for 20 boards.
Fountain was good for 20 points and 19 rebounds.
