Clarksville Boy Scout leader resigns over gay ban9:32 am | May 9, 2013
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A longtime Clarksville Boy Scout leader has resigned, saying he cannot support a policy that forces openly gay boys out of Scouting.
Bill Moser’s Wednesday resignation came a day after the Middle Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts said it will not support a proposal to partially lift the group’s long-standing exclusion of gays.
Moser told The Leaf-Chronicle (http://leafne.ws/146kk3A) he believes the current policy forces boys who join the Scouts when they are young to either quit scouting or lie about their orientation when they are older.
In response to the resignation, the Middle Tennessee Council issued a statement saying it spent countless hours polling volunteers and parents and believes the current ban is in the best interest of the organization.
