City system begins streaming school board meetings online

Residents can watch Elizabethton Board of Education meetings live online or view archived meetings on the city school system’s website since the system has started live streaming the board meetings to the Internet.

Director of Facilities and Technology Services Joey Trent said the system was able to start streaming the school board meetings because of an Education Networks of America grant. The grant provided virtual classroom equipment for distance learning which can also be used to live stream the school board meetings.

The grant provided access to Vidyo, a company that hosts online conferencing and communications, and video equipment to connect to the website for classrooms. Trent said classrooms would use a webcam to connect to the virtual learning site. He said the classrooms with this setup are able to communicate with the remote site the same as the classrooms with the more complex virtual learning equipment.
