The Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce and the city of Elizabethton will recognize Elizabethton native and NFL star Jason Witten on June 21, which will be proclaimed Jason Witten Day during a ceremony at 2 p.m. in Harmon Park.

Witten will be given a key to the city and there will be a ribbon cutting for the signs placed at the entrances to the city denoting that Elizabethton is Witten’s hometown.

“We want to recognize Jason for winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year award,” said Richard Tester, chamber member and city councilman. “We want to recognize him for all of his achievements.”

Carter County Tomorrow President Tom Anderson said the public would be welcome to attend. There will be limited seating available.

Anderson said they would be working with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department and the Elizabethton Police Department to handle parking the day of the event.
