Elizabethton Police Department Capt. Joy Markland said two drivers, including an undercover narcotics officer, were transported to Sycamore Shoals Hospital for treatment after a Wednesday afternoon vehicle crash on Highway 19E in front of the CVS drug store.
Elizabethton firefighters and Carter County Rescue Squad personnel cut the top off to remove the driver of a white Ford, hit in the side by the Nissan sedan driven by the officer.
Markland said the accident is being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol to determine the cause.
The Nissan, owned by the city, was towed from the scene of the crash to a municipal lot.
In the midst of heavy rains, traffic was slowed and reduced to one lane on the southbound side of 19E until the vehicles were removed.
