Church break-in provides a sad reminder: ‘Thou shalt not steal’ not universal

Members of the congregation at Zion Baptist Church were surprised to learn that someone had broken into their house of worship last week and stole an assortment of items.

A burglar or burglars entered Zion Baptist Church, at 1982 Gap Creek Road, last Thursday or Friday.

“My mower was there weed-eating and he noticed the glass was broken,” Pastor Alan King said.

The pastor said someone broke out the glass of an exterior door to enter the building.

Thomas Proffitt, who was mowing the church property on Saturday, contacted the pastor about 1 p.m.
