MARTIN — It wasn’t exactly a high-speed chase, but it covered nearly 20 miles and resulted in the arrest of a West Tennessee man.

Weakley County authorities say it began when a deputy stopped to check on a pickup beside Highway 45 north of Sharon on Tuesday. The officer saw 35-year-old Wesley Hatchel of Martin in the cab and spotted an active methamphetamine lab.

WCMT Radio ( ) reported Investigator Marty Plunk said Hatchel reached under the seat and tried to pull out a tire iron. Plunk fired once and Hatchel drove away, but not before the officer shot out a rear tire.

Hatchel was driving between 45-55 mph when a Dresden police officer put a round through the truck radiator. Eventually, Hatchel rammed a Greenfield police car and was surrounded.
