The Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce is facing a busy spring season with numerous events scheduled to take place.

The chamber’s environmental committee will host the Carter County River and Stream Cleanup on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The cleanup is centered at Doe River at Covered Bridge Park, but teams of volunteers visit other stream and river spots throughout the county to clean up litter and other trash from along the edges of the waterways.

Chamber Director Tonya Stevens said the chamber had partnered with Wahoo’s Adventures for a special contest for the cleanup. Wahoo’s will be providing a free rafting ticket for the individuals who find the largest, most unusual and oldest piece of debris during the cleanup.

Also on April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the chamber will be hosting a prescription drug collection at the Chamber of Commerce building.

“This is a chance for people to safely dispose of expired or unneeded prescriptions they have,” Stevens said.
