For the 25th year, they’ll be picking up cans down by the river … and any other kind of trash or litter.

The Carter County River and Stream Cleanup is planned for Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The cleanup will center on the Covered Bridge park, but will include streams, creeks and rivers throughout the county. Waterways included in the cleanup are the Watauga River, Doe River, Buffalo Creek, Laurel Fork, Simerly Creek, Stoney Creek and Sinking Creek.

Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce Environmental Committee Chairman Gary Barrigar said the cleanup would not necessarily be limited to the listed waterways.

“Any stream is a potential cleanup spot,” he said.
