“Virginia is for Lovers” has been the tourism and travel slogan for the Commonwealth of Virginia since 1969. But they won’t be any “love” displayed when the girls representing the Old Dominion State takes on Carter County American from the Volunteer State today.
The two teams will collide in the opening round of the Southeast Little League softball tournament at 5 p.m. in Clearwater, Fla. The winner of the four-team pool will play in the Little League Softball World Series in Sussex, Del., the following week. Florida and North Carolina will be the other two teams in the tournament.
Carter County’s team arrived at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and got to enjoy the beach for a few hours after checking into their motels. Some even tried tasting “alligator bites” from a “crab shack” there on the sands, CCA manager Kenny Hardin is hoping his team’s play will leave a better taste in his mouth than the bites did.
