Carter powers Williams to win

Kent Williams drew enough support in Carter County to offset Republican challenger Thom Gray’s advantage in Unicoi County and win his fourth term in the Tennessee House of Representatives.

Williams, running for re-election as an independent, defeated Gray, 11,469 to 9,883, for the Fourth District seat.

The 4th District includes all of Unicoi County, where Gray received more votes than Williams, and 18 precincts in Carter County. Several Carter County precincts are now a part of the 3rd District, which Republican candidate Timothy Hill won.
