Carter deputy suffers minor injury, cruiser totaled in crash

A $36,000 police vehicle owned by the Carter County Sheriff’s Department was totaled Tuesday night in a crash on Broad Street in Elizabethton.

CCSD Capt. Rocky Croy said Deputy Wayne Pritchard was answering a call when a 2002 Chevy Impala pulled out in front of the cruiser from Academy Street and the vehicles collided.

The collision “cut the tire down, and (Pritchard) said he stiffened up and must have hit the gas instead of the brake,” Croy said Friday. “He veered off the road and struck a vehicle parked at the fuel pumps” at Zoomerz.

Because the crash involved a deputy, the Tennessee Highway Patrol was called in to investigate.
