JOHNSON CITY — Carter County was certainly represented well in Friday night’s Bobby Hughes Classic National Boxing Championships at Legion Street Recreation Center.
On the Ringside event’s final round in the ring, Gabe Nickols, Ty Breland and Jake Robbins prevailed by unanimous decisions.
“All three of them looked real strong,” Johnson City Athletic Club coach Scott Vance said.
Nickols, 11, fired out of his corner in impressive fasion and pummeled Louisville’s Curtis Knight for two rounds in the 65-pound class. The third and final round, in which Knight rallied, ended with the Kentucky fighter sporting a bloody nose.
