Capital limit: $7.1 million10:00 am | May 16, 2013
City Manager Jerome Kitchens told Elizabethton City Schools administrators Wednesday to prioritize their capital needs to fit into a $7.1 million budget instead of the previously expected $9 million.
The lower total reflects a review that showed a proposed bond re-funding would make less money available than anticipated.
And Kitchens also questioned a central part of the proposed capital plan, asking administrators if demolishing the home side of the grandstands at T.A. Dugger Junior High School was really necessary in order to expand the school. He said a review of the plans showed the addition would fit in the space currently available.
The first phase of the plan is the athletic complex at Elizabethton High School for $5.5 million; the second phase is the demolition of the home stands on the TAD football field and the addition of eight classrooms at the school for $2 million; and the third phase is a new band room and classrooms at EHS for about $1.7 million.
