Bus driver back on road after suspension

A Carter County school bus driver was suspended without pay for five days last month after he pulled to the side of a road and left nearly four dozen children briefly unattended as he argued with the driver of a vehicle who he said had pulled out in front of the bus.

The bus driver, Blaine McAmis, also made a $300 payment to Sean Good, the other driver involved in the incident, for damages to Good’s vehicle, which were apparently made by McAmis as he tried, unsuccessfully, to get Good to engage in a conversation.

Carter County Schools Interim Director Kevin Ward said he suspended McAmis because the driver exited the school bus with children onboard, an incident that warranted disciplinary action.
