GREENEVILLE — Games that feature more than a dozen combined touchdowns more often than not hinge on one or two plays on special teams or defense. It did here Friday night for Hampton in a thrilling 48-41 Mountain East victory over South Greene.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a three-touchdown lead early in the game. South Greene had the better of it in the second half, rallying back to within an extra point of tying it with 3:33 to play. Dylan Ford answered his team’s call, crashing through and blocking the kick to preserve Hampton’s one-point lead.

On the ensuing drive, Ford led the Bulldogs down the field and gave them some breathing room with an 11-yard touchdown. To cap off his big night, the junior ended South Greene’s final possession with his third interception of the game, allowing Hampton to run out the clock and setting up a Week 10 showdown with rival Cloudland with nothing less than the conference championship on the line.
