Bryan’s men tried to make like the infamous James Gang and snatch a victory from Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Fortunately for Milligan, its defense rode in like U.S. Marshals and delivered two stops when it was needed most.
The Buffaloes held the visiting Eagles without a bucket over the final 55 seconds and claimed a 78-77 thriller for a sweep in Tuesday’s AAC doubleheader, following a 61-54 win by the host women.
A back-and-forth game for two halves, Milligan (11-6, 4-1) charged to the lead after a nine-point deficit early — then battled back from seven down twice in the second half of the nightcap.
Bryan (5-11, 1-3) responded in the closing minutes and it came down to the end where the Buffs stood tall.
“That was a game of runs,” said Milligan coach Bill Robinson. “It started that way and kind of continued throughout the game. Our energy wasn’t as good as it was on Saturday.
