Bucs no match for VCU2:47 am | January 3, 2013
JOHNSON CITY — Their season theme is “havoc” for a reason.
Perennial Atlantic 10 Conference power Virginia Commonwealth University and sharp-shooting senior Troy Daniels brought 40 minutes of it to East Tennessee State’s men Wednesday night, rolling the Buccaneers to the tune of 109-58 at MSHA Athletic Center.
Just two seasons removed from an NCAA Final Four appearance, Shaka Smart’s squad controlled all facets of the game en route to its eighth straight win and handing the Buccaneer program its second-worst loss in history (51 points) and worst in the Murry Bartow era.
“I thought our guys did a nice job on both ends of the floor,” said VCU coach Smart, whose team improved to 11-3 on the season. “They shared the basketball and we had another very good shooting night. Defensively, ETSU attacked us in the first half and had us on our heels a little bit.
