JOHNSON CITY — A battle of the basketball Joneses came down to the easiest of shooting attempts.
East Tennessee State’s Jarvis Jones missed an open layup as time expired and Northern Kentucky escaped from MSHA Athletic Center with a 70-68 Atlantic Sun victory over the Buccaneers.
“We got a great look there,” said ETSU coach Murry Bartow. “When the game’s on the line, I want the ball in Jarvis’ hands. We press, they turn it over and get the ball with 10 seconds left. He got a good look, it didn’t go in.”
ETSU (6-17, 4-6) withered a 10-point second half deficit into a tie game with time winding down. The Norse (7-11, 5-5), however, caught a big break.
