Boys and Girls Club looks to LEAP to link fun and education

Members of the Elizabethton Boys and Girls Club will soon be taking part in more activities that are both fun and educational.

The Elizabethton Boys and Girls Club hosted 50 other club directors from around the state for LEAP training on Friday, Oct. 4.

Elizabethton Boys and Girls Club Director Ginny Wright said the training focused on how to include science, technology, engineering and math, as well as new Common Core standards, into games and activities that children take part in while they are at the club.

Wright said the Boys and Girls Club was not trying to take the place of the school systems, but would be supplementing what the students learn in school with the activities at the Boys and Girls Club.

“This is not school, but we want the kids to progress and to learn on time,” she said. “We can’t take the place of the schools, and we don’t want to.”
