At least one county official is confident a deal will be reached between County Commission and the Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad.
“Figures are getting closer in what we’d like to give and what they’d like to take,” Chairman Tom Bowers told commissioners Monday. “I feel like we’ve made some real progress.”
Bowers updated the board on discussions among himself, the county attorney, Rescue Squad attorney Richard Norris and a member of the squad’s board of directors, who met last week to discuss a contract renewal.
During a May 13 workshop held by the county’s Budget Committee, commissioners agreed to enter into a two-week negotiating process with Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad through May 27.
Although it was this Monday before the County Commission voted 19-2 to approve the two-week period, those talks got under way last week with Bowers’ meeting.
