During its meeting on Thursday afternoon, the Carter County Board of Education voted to close Range Elementary School.

Upon hearing the news, members of the public who were present to show their support for Range stood and headed for the exit.

Once the Range matter had concluded, board members then addressed the long-range facilities plan that has been discussed over the past few weeks. Board members voted against the measure, which called for the construction of a new, centrally located high school to serve as the county’s only building to house grades nine through 12.
