Terry Barker awaits the Carter County Beer Board’s vote to allow the Barn Shoppe to continue selling beer in Watauga.

A landmark Watauga establishment was allowed to renew its beer permit on Wednesday.

The Carter County Beer Board unanimously passed the request made by the new owners of the Barn Shoppe, more commonly referred to as the Beer Barn, located at 450 Watauga Road.

New owners Terry Barker and Jamie Carr were on hand to answer the board’s questions, with Barker noting the business has “been there since at least 1983.”

Commissioner Jo Ann Blankenship requested that they designate a manager on the application.

“Basically, Lori will be the manager — Lori Carr,” Jamie Carr said.

Commissioner Tom Bowers said the former owners have turned in their beer permit, which was previously issued to Pamela Bunton.
