The Elizabethton High School Betsy Band received several first place honors and a superior rating at the second marching competition of the fall season Saturday at the 31st annual Volunteer Classic Band Festival.

Twelve high school bands competed in the event taking place at the James D. Lillard Stadium at Heritage High School, which is nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The band’s “Wright to the Moon” show captured first place for Drum Major, Percussion and Band. Betsy’s Color Guard was honored with second place.

Class A Betsy, facing competitive bands from Class B, such as White County, Sevier County, Ridgeland, Knoxville Central and the Class A Band from Farragut High School, was named Sweepstakes Winners of the Class B/A division, also. The honor is presented from those two groups to the band receiving the highest numerical score for the day.
