Ben Hunter to speak on extending the growing season

10:36 am | July 23, 2013

Master Gardener Ben Hunter will present the third of four informative gardening talks at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton on Saturday, Aug. 3.

Hunter’s talk is sponsored by the park and the Northeast Tennessee Master Gardener Association.

A gardener of over 64 years, Hunter presently has over 100 raised garden beds at his home. He has implemented several techniques that eliminate much of the back-breaking work of gardening, which include the use of raised beds and an extensive use of compost. Hunter is a certified Master Gardener, retired chemist and retired volunteer firefighter.

His presentation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the theater at the visitors center at  Sycamore Shoals.

The topic for this presentation will be “Extend Your Growing Season.”
“Get Ready for Spring/Winterizing Your Beds” on Oct. 19 will be his final presentation for 2013.

His August talk will be open to the public and is geared toward all levels, from current gardeners to anyone who might be interested in gardening.
Hunter will share his vast experiences and successes in gardening.

Sycamore Shoals is located at 1651 W. Elk Ave., Elizabethton.
