10:15 am | October 14, 2013

Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area and the Northeast Tennessee Master Gardener Association will welcome Master Gardener Ben Hunter to Sycamore Shoals for the last in his series of 2013 informative gardening talks.

A gardener for more than 64 years, Hunter presently tends more than 100 raised garden beds at his home. He has implemented several techniques that eliminate much of the back breaking work of gardening, which include the use of raised beds and an extensive use of compost. He is a Certified Master Gardener, retired chemist and retired volunteer firefighter.

His presentations in the theater at Sycamore Shoals will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 19. The topic for his final talk of the year will be “Get Ready for Spring/Winterizing Your Beds.” The talk is open to the public and geared toward all levels, from current gardeners to anyone who might be interested in gardening. Hunter will share his vast experiences and successes in gardening. His passion for gardening will surely ignite your love of gardening and working outdoors.

The park is located at 1651 W. Elk Ave., Elizabethton. For more information, call the park at 543-5808.
