Baby Ian’s birth a historic moment at Sycamore Shoals

Ian was the last baby born at Sycamore Shoals Hospital before the hospital closed its family birthing center Sept. 30.

The son of Stacy and Barbara Blevins, he was born Friday, Sept. 28, at 9:11 a.m. He weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 19-1/2 inches long.

Barbara, who had a scheduled cesarean section surgery, said she was surprised to learn her son was the last planned birth at Sycamore Shoals.

“I knew they were going to stop doing births at the hospital,” she said. “I knew he was going to be one of the last, but I did not expect him to be the last one.”
