By

The future Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter is one step closer to reality after Elizabethton’s City Council approved the low bidder for the project.

Council unanimously approved the low bid of $499,245 from Landmark Construction of Johnson City during its meeting Thursday night.

The bid will now be presented to the Carter County Commission for approval on Monday, Oct. 15. If the commission approves the bid, construction on the new shelter project can begin as soon as the contractor is ready.

The total cost to the city and the county will be $203,872.50 each. The Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter Building Committee will be responsible for $91,500 of the cost for the new shelter.
