American tournament finals set8:57 pm | January 19, 2013
Opening night was a dominant night for the number one seeds in this year’s American League middle school Basketball tournament.
The Little Milligan boys and Unaka girls squads combined for 97 points, while holding their respective opponents to 30 combined points on the night. Added to the bracket mix was a well-rounded effort from the second-seeded Keenburg girls and a surprisingly dominant performance from the third-seeded Unaka boys.
Ultimately the stage is now set for an exciting championship Monday.
Game one Saturday night featured the Keenburg boys capturing a hard-fought 38-23 victory over the Range Rebels to play into the championship bracket as a four seed. Three treys and 13 total points from shooting guard Jesse Carr turned out to be the performance that lifted the Tigers from a two-point halftime lead to an insurmountable 29-18 lead with under four minutes to go in the contest.
