After Carter County Bank drive nets nearly 1,000 coats, United Way set for distribution8:53 am | November 19, 2012
Carter County Bank and the Elizabethton/Carter County United Way have joined to bring warm, winter coats to those in need in Carter County this winter.
In October, Carter County Bank help a coat drive at each branch location. During the coat drive, 955 new and gently used coats in all sizes were collected to go to Carter County residents.
“Carter County Bank has a committee of employees we call our ‘Community Champions,’” said Rebecca White, marketing director of Carter County Bank. “This group is responsible for creating ways that our company can have a positive impact on our community. They chose to hold a coat drive and partner with Elizabethton/Carter County United Way. All six of our branches participated. Sandy Hallenbeck and Tabitha Campbell co-chaired this initiative, and we are proud of what all our employees accomplished.”
Carter County Bank President and CEO Dale Fair found the community’s response to the coat drive overwhelming.
“Many deserving individuals will benefit from these efforts,” Fair said. “Carter County is a very caring and giving community. Carter County Bank and its employees were extremely happy to aid in the collection of these coats.”
Now that the coats have been collected, the United Way will work to distribute them to the community members who need them.
United Way Director Debbie Guy will be distributing the coats on Monday, Nov. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Center for those with an appointment.
“An early winter seems to have hit our community, and these coats will help many needy families prepare for cold season ahead,” Guy said.
She said the distribution did have some financial guidelines that would be explained to applicants when they called to make an appointment for the distribution date.
Guy said any coats not distributed on Nov. 26 would be divided among non-profit organizations throughout Carter County.
“We want to make sure we reach the widest number of people possible,” she said.
