AAC honors Lady Buffs’ Kelly

By

Milligan’s Kayla Kelly was named Appalachian Athletic Conference’s women’s basketball player of the week Monday afternoon.

“Kayla is off to a great start this year,” Lady Buffs coach Rich Aubrey said. “We’re very pleased for her to receive this honor.”

Kelly helped lead the Buffs to a 2-0 record last week as Milligan opened AAC play with wins over Virginia Intermont and Montreat. The junior guard poured in a career-high 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Montreat as she shot 42 percent from the floor, including a 3-for-5 performance behind the 3-point line.

In the Buffaloes’ other game, Kelly had 17 points and six rebounds. Overall, she averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds and two assists per game.

Milligan is 7-2 overall and 2-0 in AAC play.

Kelly and company return to action today at UVA-Wise. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
