11 Carter County students participate in 4-H Outdoor Meat Cookery Contest

Eleven Carter County 4-H members got out the grill and charcoal and entered the Eastern Region 4-H Outdoor Meat Cookery Contest. The contest was held at the Appalachian Fair.

In the Outdoor Meat Cookery contest each participant grills a cut (or more) of meat using their favorite recipe. For a team score, each member must grill a different species of meat — beef, lamb, pork and poultry. In addition, teams create a theme using their table decorations and coordinating their recipes.

The Senior High team members, Roger Clark, Emily Carr, Jennie Clark and Richie Winters, placed eighth in the overall competition. Members were also recognized for grilling their individual meat cuts — Roger received 9th high in beef; Emily received 4th high in poultry; Jennie was 8th high in lamb and Richie was 6th high in pork. This team chose a graduation party as their theme.
